Truett-McConnell College offers a Biblically-centered Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. The focus of the program is to educate students in the principles of theology, philosophy, and psychology in order to prepare students to enter the helping fields (ie., professional counseling, social work, law, and medicine). Truett's academic program is unique in the approach of grounding students in the truth of the Bible while introducing them to and engaging them with the various philosophies and theories guiding the research and practice of psychology. Students will be exposed to challenging courses, invaluable internships, and training in psychological research in fulfillment of their requirements for the program.
The program in psychology seeks to serve the mission of the College by actively engaging students in a course of study that will ground them in Biblical scripture, equip them with an understanding of the discipline, and enable them to use their knowledge for greater impact in the world. Graduates of the psychology program will be grounded in a Christian Worldview so that they might exemplify the commandment of Christ to love God and love others by building up and encouraging others in their future psychology-related careers and ministries. Graduates of Truett-McConnell College's Psychology program will be able to think critically to integrate their foundation in Christian theology with principles discussed in their courses to "admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone."
The mission of the interdisciplinary program in Missions and Psychology is to prepare students to spread the message of Christ through word and action. Through direct and personal interaction with people from diverse backgrounds (e.g., the residents of an orphanage, group home, teen pregnancy center or drug and alcohol abuse center), graduates with this degree will exemplify the New Testament model of a tentmaker, providing a service to people from the foundation of Jesus Christ. The program seeks to equip students with a) a firm understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, b) a grasp of psychological principles and theories, and c) opportunities to contextualize their classroom learning experiences. As such, students will engage in studies that connect the disciplines of Missions/Christian Studies, Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology and activities that support these disciplines.

The Middle Grades Education Program is a cohort model, a group of students proceeds through the program together beginning in the fall of their junior year. Courses are offered on the Truett-McConnell College campus during day-time hours. The program is aligned with the Georgia Framework for Teaching and is field-based and developmental. The program is consistent with the mission and vision of the institution and meets national and state standards for the preparation of middle school teachers.

Because of the sequencing of courses and because of pre-requisites for admission, a student should review the Degree Checklist and consult with an education department advisor as soon as he or she enrolls at Truett.
Once a student is admitted to the Teacher Education Program, that student will be assigned to a cohort with a designated course schedule and to an education department advisor. The education faculty monitors and reviews the progress of each student each semester. The faculty reserves the right to remove any student from the Teacher Education Program for failing to meet established criteria and policies in effect at the time of admission and/or demonstrating conduct that has been judged unethical or illegal based on the Truett-McConnell Student Handbook or the Code of Ethics of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Students should apply to the Teacher Education Program after they have completed 40 hours of academic coursework. Please note: Admission to Truett-McConnell College does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program.
Application packets for the following academic year are due February 1 to Room 111 Holcomb Education Building. Interviews may be conducted. Qualified applicants will be notified prior to the spring advisement period for fall registration.
Late applications (submitted after February 1) from current Truett-McConnell students and from transfer students are accepted and considered until the cohort is filled (20 students).
Transfer students who wish to apply for admission to Teacher Education must first apply for admission to the college, and admission to the college does not guarantee admission to Teacher Education.

The early childhood, middle grades and music education programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The music education program is also approved by the National Association of Schools of Music. All degree programs at Truett-McConnell College are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) at Level II.
