Spiritual Emphasis Week continues

Spiritual Emphasis Week continues

By Vicky Kaniaru

CLEVELAND, Ga.(TMCNews)—Emphasizing the importance of having a renewed mind, Fred Luter brought yet another challenging sermon to Truett-McConnell College faculty, staff, and students on Sept. 7.

"Every day I'll be challenging us to do what God has called us to do," said Luter, who is pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, and 1st vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Building onto Tuesday's sermon which encouraged believers to have the Word of God in their hand, head, and heart, Luter utilized Philippians 2:5-8 to encourage believers on how to stand amid the attack of Satan.

Luter noted three points on why Christians should have a transformed mind. He said that a renewed mind helps one think about one's Christ, one's choices, and the cross. "You must have a renewed mind," he said.

Citing verses 5 and 6, Luter reminded the audience to continually meditate about the goodness of Jesus before giving in to the attacks of the enemy. "Even though Jesus was fully God, he became fully man just for you. Jesus pulled us from the pit of hell, why wouldn't you live for him?" he said.

With pulpit-pounding zeal, Luter implored listeners to think about their choices. "Jesus did not allow his heavenly position and reputation to affect his earthly responsibility," Luter said. "He chose to become a bond servant."

The pastor reminded believers that Jesus made every choice with his father in mind. Alluding to the Psalms, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and Romans, Luter said, "If your choices are to please God, we must know what he says about our choices."

"Every choice leads to a consequence," Luter added, concluding that a renewed mind should help believers think about the cross. "If it had not been for the cross, we would still be in our sins," he said. "Christ did what he did for you and me."
