CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMCSports) – Truett-McConnell College's athletic staff teamed up with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes June 17-21 to offer a sports camp for area children at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville, Ga.
After a morning of Vacation Bible School, TMC's athletic staff offered a
half-day sports camp called VBXtra, where campers chose different sports to practice each day.
Though the sports drills were helpful, six campers committed their lives to Christ during the VBXtra camp. And all campers received a Bible.
"Our involvement with the recent FCA camp at Bethlehem Baptist Church was a great opportunity to use the platform of athletics to serve others and share the Gospel," said TMC's athletic director, Dr. Stacy Hall. "This is the essence of TMC athletics."
Steve Pruitt, area director for Georgia Mountains FCA, noted the collaborative efforts of both Bethlehem Baptist and Truett-McConnell College. FCA ministry works best when groups serve together, Pruitt said. "We are simply a catalyst to facilitate ministry through athletics, and we praise the Lord for six children making salvation decisions during camp."
TMC's baseball coaches worked with children on baseball and softball skills throughout the week and said it was encouraging to see the volunteers from Bethlehem Baptist so eager to feed into the children's lives.
"Anytime we can partner with a church in the community and use the abilities and skills God has blessed us with is a great privilege and responsibility," said Mike Croley, Truett-McConnell's head baseball coach.
