2010 Spring Softball Preview

The 2010 TMC Softball season is set to begin soon when the Bears travel to Gainesville to face Brenau University on February 9th.  This past fall was filled with many activities as the team prepared for the season through strength and agility workouts, study hall sessions, and community service projects. Coach Deitz was married in December (now Coach Shepard), which added to the chaos of preparing for the spring season. In the final weeks of practice before the season begins the Bears are busy battling the weather to work out all the final kinks and get ready to compete. Truett will face a mixture of NAIA, NCAA II, and NCAA III teams during their initial four year season and will play a full NAIA conference schedule next season. They will also travel to Palm Beach, Florida to compete in the NCCAA South Region tournament in April.

Last season the Lady Bears were hampered by injuries finishing 20-28 overall. They look to improve upon that record and prepare for conference play within the softball strong SSAC conference next season.

The Lady Bears have a mixture of speed, power, and experience among their players. Shepard focuses on playing hard, playing together, and believing in your teammates. She had this to say about the upcoming season, “I have a great group of girls not only because they enjoy this game and work so hard at everything we do, but because they work so well together. We have a very diverse group this year. Many players can play in multiple positions and one of the keys to the season will be determining who playing where most benefits the team at any given time. I try to instill good character values among my players and teach them to act in a way that reflects upon who they are as a person both on and off the field. I will be posting game day signs throughout town on game days, so if you see a sign and have a little time bring your family out to the field and cheer on the Lady Bears as they take to the field this season.”

The TMC Softball Team’s home field is Field #5 located at the WCRD on Asbestos Road.
