Business Office Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to Truett-McConnell College. Please read this information carefully. It consists of commonly-asked questions about your student account with the Business Office.
When is my payment to the college due? Registered students must pay at least 10% of the estimated cost of attendance (ECOA), after financial aid is applied, or have a payment plan with Sallie Mae on or before July 31, 2009. If payment or payment plan has not been secured, student may have classes dropped by the Registrar’s Office. Truett-McConnell College can only project an estimated cost of attendance once all financial aid documents have been submitted and reviewed to the Financial Aid Office. Please make sure that all required documents are turned in by July 31st.
If a student registers after July 31, 2009, a payment of 10% of the cost of attendance (COA), after financial aid is applied, is required immediately upon registration. Students who have not registered or have not made payment arrangements (10% of COA or payment plan) on or before freshman move-in day, will be denied permission to move into a residence hall or to attend classes until registration and payment/ payment plan has been secured. What if I don’t pay my bill by the due date? All students who have not paid or secured payment of 100% COA prior to the first day of class will be dropped from classes. Extensions may be granted on a case-by-case basis, provided the student has completed and turned in all proper financial aid documentation and student and/or family have met with the Director of Financial Aid.
What if I decide not to attend Truett-McConnell after I've registered? Students who decide not to attend must withdraw from the college through the Registrar's Office. A student who registers and doesn’t attend may accrue charges affecting his/her credit report and failing grades on his/her transcript.
If I receive financial aid, do I still have to pay in full? You must pay your bill in full, less any approved financial aid. It is critical to apply for financial aid early, and to respond to questions from the Financial Aid Office quickly.
What if I pay in full and then receive more financial aid? Additional financial aid may result in a credit balance on your student account. Credits are refunded as soon as all financial aid is received. Checks are mailed to students at their permanent mailing address unless otherwise requested.
What if I am approved for financial aid, and it is discovered I am not eligible? This sometimes happens. When the problem is discovered, the student bill is then adjusted to show the balance previously covered by financial aid is due from the student. For example, there are requirements to receive the Georgia State Tuition Equalization Grant and HOPE Scholarship, one of which is Georgia residency. If a student states he is a Georgia resident, and is not, or has not been a resident for the required period of time, the award of aid will be revoked.
What if I am approved for financial aid and then do not receive it? This could happen, usually because of action by the student such as dropping coursework. It is critical before a student drops coursework that he/she contact the Financial Aid Office to see if it will affect his/her financial aid. Many types of financial aid require attendance for a certain period of time.
If you register for a course and do not attend, (or miss the maximum number of classes allowed), your instructor may dismiss you. You could lose financial aid and owe a balance to the college. Some financial aid awards are contingent on grade point average.
What if I have questions about financial aid? The only individuals authorized to give you financial aid information are Financial Aid staff members. Do not rely on information from friends, family, Business Office personnel, other college staff, advisors, or anyone else. Financial Aid’s toll-free number is 1-800-226-8621.
What if I need cash while on campus? The college does not cash checks for students. The bookstore will cash checks up to $20.00 over purchase. Students should have a way to access cash, whether by a local bank account, ATM or debit card.
