ANA Code of Ethics

The TMC Division of Nursing expects students to be honest in all of their academic endeavors. Students are expected to adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Standards of Practice for Professional Nurses.

Cheating, plagiarism, forgery, or other forms of academic misconduct are not tolerated. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure their academic pursuits are conducted with utmost integrity. Cheating of any kind will be handled directly by the Faculty member and will result in a grade of ‘0’ or dismissal from the course with a grade of ‘F.’ If cases of cheating are referred to the Vice President of Academic Services, the student may be suspended or expelled from TMC. Any nursing student who copies or falsifies a report for any assignment, clinical project, clinical care plan, term or research paper without doing the required work will result in a grade of ‘0.’

Students are required to submit papers to the web based program, Turnitin, prior to submitting the paper to the faculty for a grade. The student must create an account on Turnitin. A ‘similarity report’ from Turnitin is required to be turned in with the paper. Only papers with a score of less than 15% will be accepted by the faculty.  Keep in mind it takes a minimum of 24 hours after submission to receive the ‘similarity report.’

As a biblically centered institution, TMC has established the rules and policies of student conduct based on biblical truths, moral standards, and ethical principles. It is the responsibility of the individual student to maintain high professional and ethical principles. The professional nurse is accountable for professional standards in the practice of nursing published in the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001); and the National Student Nurses’ Association, Code of Academic and Clinical Conduct (2001); Code of Professional Conduct (1999); and Code of Ethics for Nursing Students (2009).
