Three Truett-McConnell College faculty and staff members were honored in the college’s annual Honors Day program on May 1.

Dr. Robert Loffredo, interim Vice President for Academic Services, presented the 2008 Award for Faculty Excellence to Dr. Susan Gannaway, Professor and Chair of the Department of Education.   Formerly Chair of the Education Department at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Dr. Gannaway joined the Truett-McConnell faculty in 2005.  She has served as the principal architect of the bachelor’s degree program in early childhood education.  Dr. Gannaway holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Georgia.  She resides in Gainesville.

When the snow and cold temperatures of winter are over, golfers look forward to those first warm days of spring so they can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on the links of northeast Georgia.
This year Truett-McConnell College hosted its 13th Invitational Scholarship Golf Tournament on Tuesday, March 25, on The Woodlands Course at Château Élan in Braselton, GA.  A full field of 25 four-player teams enjoyed the day of good golf and even better fellowship.  Even though the early morning temperatures were cool, the brilliant Georgia sunshine soon raised the thermometer to a pleasant and comfortable level.
Check-in for the tournament began at 9:00 AM, and play got underway with a shotgun start at 10:30 AM.  Boxed lunches compliments of Chick-fil-A were delivered to the golfers on the course.
TMC’s Invitational Scholarship Golf Tournament is an event which benefits the college’s general scholarship fund.  This year’s tournament netted slightly over $14,000 for the general scholarship fund.  TMC awards academic, athletic, Georgia Baptist and need-based scholarships and grants.  Each full-time student is eligible for some institutional aid in addition to any federal and state aid available.
In the next issue of TMC News, details will be available about the 2009 golf tournament.  It will be held next spring at a local venue.  Alumni who are golfers are encouraged to make plans now to play.
