TMC's Terrell Jones named Great Lakes League Player of the Week
As a freshman this past season at TMC, Terrell Jones provided big hit after big hit.  No hit was bigger than his game winning 2 RBI triple in the first round of the GJCAA playoffs against Gordon College.  The switch-hitting OF from Douglasville, GA has continued his good work with the bat as a member of the Anderson Servants of the well recognized Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.

Jones currently sits 3rd in the league in batting average and his impressive body of work over the week of July 6th through the 12th (12-18, 2 doubles, 5 rbi's) was good enough to earn him Great Lakes League Player of the Week.

The transition from Truett-McConnell to the Anderson Servants was an easy one for Jones because of the similar missions of both TMC and the Servants.  "The Anderson Servants Baseball Program is a vessel that grants collegiate baseball players the opportunity to compete at the highest level while being challenged to live and play for the glory of Jesus Christ".  Jones looks to finish his impressive summer with the Servants over the next few weeks before returning to TMC for his sophomore seasion this fall.

BREAKING NEWS: TMC Awarded Acceptance into the NCCAA
It was announced that along with TMC's recent acceptance into the NAIA, the school has also been awarded acceptance into the NCCAA.  The National Chrisitan College Atheltic Association is an organization commited to equipping student-athletes and coaches to make a positive impact for Christ, which coincidentally is exactly the mission statement of Truett-McConnell College.  The common mission further strengthens the newly-formed union between TMC and the NCCAA.  For TMC student-athletes membership in both the NAIA and NCCAA means two possible roads to post-season play and national championship possibilities.  TMC athletic director Jim Waits had this to say about TMC's acceptance into the NCCAA. "The acceptance into the NCCAA is exciting because we become apart of an organization that has the same mission as our institution-- to make a positive impact for Christ".

Bears sweep Gordon College to Advance to the GJCAA Final 4
On Saturday the 2009 TMC Bears accomplished what no other team has since the GJCAA re-structured the playoff system 4 years ago by advancing to the Final 4 double elimination tournament next weekend at South Georgia College in Douglas, GA. In their final season of GJCAA competition the Bears will be looking to finish with a championship. This was made possible by winning their best of three series with the #3 ranked Highlanders of Gordon College. The series began Friday night and despite a solid starting effort from sophomore Thomas Campbell (6.2 IP 3 H 4 R 1 ER 9 K's) the Bears found themselves trailing 4-3 heading into the 8th inning. Much as their opponents did a week before the Bears used an 8th inning comeback to take the 6-4 victory with Terrell Jones providing the big blow with a game winning 2 RBI triple. Ted Pratt would earn the win in relief of Campbell recording the final 7 outs, 6 of which came by strikeout. The Bears went into Saturday looking to close the series out and avoid a game 3. With this in mind the Bears turned to their sophomore leader Andrew Wallace. In fashion just as he did 3 weeks ago when his effort against Andrew College sealed a playoff birth, Wallace delivered again with a complete game 4 hit performance en route to the 9-2 victory. The offense was lead by the freshman duo from Augusta, GA as Teddy Leverett and Tyler Bourdo combined for 5 hits, 3 triples, 4 RBI's and 4 runs scored. As a result of their victory the Bears will face #1 seeded Georgia Perimeter Friday night in Douglas, GA in the opening round of the GJCAA Final 4.

2 Bears Garner End of the Year Honors
Sophomores Andrew Wallace and Ryan Jones have been recognized by the GJCAA for their work on the field this season. Wallace garnered 2nd Team All Conference honors as an outfielder. For the regular season Wallace hit .352 and an even more impressive .460 in Conference Play. In addition Ryan Jones was named to the Conference's Gold Glove Team. On the season Jones made only 3 errors at 2nd Base. The Gold Glove honor marks the 3rd consecutive season in which the Bears' have had a player recognized for their exceptional work defensively with Michael Wear (2007) and Andrew Wallace (2008) both being named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Bears defeated by Gordon in Playoff Preview
In a preview of next week's first round GJCAA playoff matchup the TMC Bears fell to Gordon College by final scores of 11-7, 3-2, and 8-2. The Bears seemd to have game 1 in hand holding a 7-2 lead after 7 innings thanks to 4 RBI's from Terrell Jones and a strong start from Ted Pratt (5.1 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 6 K's). Unfortunately, Gordon used an 8 run eighth inning to propel them to the victory. Game 2 saw another strong start as Colby Collins worked 6 solid innings allowing only a single earned run. The Bears tied the game at 2 in the 8th but a misplayed bunt and 2 singles in the bottom of 9th made the home Highlanders victorious. In game 3 the Bears were unable to do much with Gordon starter Bryant Kearns and fell by a final score of 8-2. Ryan Gale (6-10 3 2B's) and Freddy Garay (4-7 2 RBI's) lead the Bears offensively on the weekend. The Bears will return to action next weekend as they travel back to Barnesville for a rematch against Gordon. Game dates and times will be announced later this week.

Bears salvage final game at ABAC with last inning comeback
After dropping the first two games of their conference series with ABAC over the weekend and facing the reality of being swept the Bears responded with a dramatic 7th inning come back to take game 3 giving them sole possession of 6th place in the GJCAA Conference standings. In game 1 a strong pitching performance by Harley Freeman (7 IP 7 H 3 R 1 ER 7k's) was wasted as ABAC scored 2 unearned runs in the 8th off reliever Josh Wright en route to the 5-3 victory. Game 2 saw another strong Bears pitching performance as sophomore Thomas Campbell settled down after giving up 5 runs in the first 2 innings to throw a complete game while striking out 11. Unfortunately for the Bears for the second time this year their offense was shutdown by ABAC starter Austin Leary who also threw a complete game in the 5-3 ABAC win. Trailing 6-5 in the last inning of game 3 the Bears mounted the comeback. After back to back singles by Ryan Gale and Freddy Garay, Terrell Jones bunted them up to 2nd and 3rd setting the stage for pinch hitter Jeremy Herren. Herren would deliver a game tying single which was followed by a game winning single off the bat of Ryan Jones. Colby Collins picked up the win on the mound working 5.1 innings in relief of starter Andrew Wallace. The Bears will be back in action in the final series of the regular season next Friday as they travel to Barnesville, GA to take on Gordon College.

Bears sweep crosstown visitors from Piedmont College (JV)
On a day that the Bears honored 6 sophomores for their hardwork and dedication over the past 2 years they also swept a DH from their crosstown visitors from Piedmont College (JV) by scores of 11-2 and 4-0. In game 1 Ted Pratt took the ball and limited the visiting Lions to 1 unearned run through 5 innings while striking out 11. Cameron Blinn would come on and finish the game earning his 3rd save in the last 4 games. Leading the way offensively in game 1 was Daniel Ficarrotta (2-4 HR and 2 rbi's). In game 2 Ben Ralston started for the Bears and pitched masterfully working 6 innings, while allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3. Josh Wright came on and worked a perfect 7th to complete the shutout. Rudy Rodriguez (2-3 HR 2 Rbi's) lead the offense in game 2. The Bears will ride a 5 game winning streak into this weekends conference action as they travel to Tifton, GA to take on ABAC on Friday and Saturday.

Wallace leads Bears to sweep on the mound and at the plate
The Bears knew coming into this weekend a sweep of visiting conference opponent Andrew College would allow the Bears to clinch a GJCAA playoff spot that eluded them a year ago. With that in mind, it seemed only fiting that a sophomore who missed out on the playoffs last year would propel the Bears to the sweep they were looking for. Andrew Wallace started at the plate in game 1 (3-4, 1 2B, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI) helping to make a winner out of freshman Josh Wright. Cameron Blinn would come on to nail down the 7-6 victory to earn the first save of his career. In game 2 Wallace again shined this time on the mound throwing a gutsy complete game en route to the 8-6 victory. Leading the way at the plate in game 2 was freshman Bruce Nyland who went 2-2 with a double, homerun, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. In game 3 the Bears fell behind early, but trailing 5-3 in the 4th they again turned to Wallace and again he delivered with a monster grandslam homerun to give the Bears a 7-5 lead. The visiting Tigers of Andrew would again tie the game only to see sophomore Ryan Jones connect for a 2 run double to propel the Bears to the 11-8 victory. Harley Freeman picked up the victory on the mound in relief of starter Colby Collins and for the second time in as many days Blinn once again closed the door to earn the save. The Bears will return to action on Wednesday as they host Piedmont in a DH at 1:00.

Bears knock off 9th Ranked Team in the Country
After blowing a lead late in game 1 of their 3 game series with the nation's number 9 team, the Walters State Senators, the Bears turned to freshman Colby Collins and Collins, as he has several times already this season, turned in a masterful performance. Collins threw a complete game limiting one of the nation's most potent offenses to only 6 hits and 2 runs en route to the 3-2 victory. Collins got all the offensive support he would need off the bats of Recardo Billups (2-run HR) and Daniel Ficarrotta (GW Sac-Fly). In game 1 Andrew Wallace started for the Bears and lead 5-4 as he exited the game. The lead would not holdup however as Walters State scored 5 times in the 6th (2 earned) to take the 9-5 victory. The Bears will return to action on Sunday at 1:00 as they conclude the 3 game set with the Senators.

Bears complete sweep of South Georgia
On Monday the Bears completed the sweep of conference rival South Georgia taking both games of the DH by scores of 9-2 and 5-2. In game 1 the Bears rode the right arm of sophomore Thomas Campbell to the victory (7.1 IP 6 H 1 R 2 BB 5k's) Leading the way offensively in game 1 was freshman Teddy Leverett (2-3 1 RBI 2 SB's 2 runs scored). Game 2 the Bears turned to sophomore Andrew Wallace to deliver the sweep and he did just that with a complete game 6 hit performance. Sophomore Ryan Jones once again chipped in at the plate with a nice game (2-3 1 run scored 1 RBI). As a result of the sweep the Bears jump up to 6th place in the conference standings. The Bears will return to action this week as they play host to 2 of the top 20 ranked teams in the country. The Bears will play a DH against Cleveland State (18th) on Tuesday before a 3-game series with Walters State (9th) on Friday and Saturday.

Bears take game 1 vs South Georgia
Game 1 of the Bears Conference series against South Georgia was a back and forth battle in which the Bears came from behind 3 times and eventually hung on to an 11-10 victory. Harley Freeman started for the Bears and worked 6 solid innings allowing only 3 earned runs while striking out 3. The Bears trailed by a score of 8-6 heading to the bottom of the 7th when Terrell Jones (3-4 2B 3B 4 RBI's) connected on a 2-RBI triple to tie the game. One batter later Ryan Jones would provide a sac-fly to give the Bears a 9-8 lead. The Bears would tack on 2 more insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th to take an 11-8 advantage. After scoring 2 runs and having the tying run on 3rd and go-ahead run on 1st with 2 outs the Bears called on Ted Pratt who struck out South Georgia pinch hitter Austin Palmer on 3 pitches to earn his 4th save of the season. Colby Collins pitched a perfect 7th inning to earn the victory. The Bears will conclude the series with South Georgia on Monday with a DH begining at 1:00.
