GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The amount of financial assistance a student may receive depends upon his calculated financial need. The calculated financial need takes into account the financial resources of the student and/or parents and the cost of attendance.

There are several types of financial assistance: scholarships, grants, and loans. An effort is made to package a program of financial assistance to meet the need and the special circumstances of the student. This may include one, or a combination, of various types of assistance. Most of the programs are renewable each year so that the student can be assured of a continuation of financial assistance throughout his college career, as long as he has a calculated financial need and is maintaining satisfactory academic progress. Each student needs to reapply annually for financial assistance. Most financial assistance programs are administered through the college by the Financial Aid Office. For those programs which are not, the Financial Aid Office will assist students in the application process.

The programs require the filing of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The college uses this information as a factor in determination of calculated financial need. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid may be completed online, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, obtained from high school counselors or the Financial Aid Office at Truett-McConnell. It is important that the form be filled out completely and accurately. The personnel in the Financial Aid Office are available to answer questions.
Since funds are limited for several financial assistance programs, the student should complete the necessary form(s) as early as possible. Assistance from the various programs with limited funds is awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-eligible basis.

The amount of aid a student will receive from the TMC Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Federal Family Education Loan Programs, and Georgia Baptist Foundation Scholarship will depend on the student's calculated financial need, as determined from the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The amount of a student's award from TMC Grant, music, and athletic scholarships will depend on the student's qualifications for these programs. In order to continue receiving assistance from the various programs, a student must maintain satisfactory academic progress in a course of study.

Any assistance received by a student from grants and loans will be credited to the student's account each semester. The student will be issued a statement showing the amount received from the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, and funds from Federal Family Education Loan Programs. Benefits from the Veterans Administration are paid to the eligible student directly each month. Vocational Rehabilitation payments are credited to the student's account each semester.

Truett-McConnell College considers a student taking twelve (12) or more hours per semester a full-time student. A student taking an academic load of nine (9) through eleven (11) semester hours is classified as a three-quarter time student. A student taking six (6) through eight (8) semester hours is considered a half-time student. A student taking one (1) through five (5) semester hours is considered a less-than-half-time student. A student must take at least twelve (12) semester hours to be eligible for any institutional scholarship(s).

The college's satisfactory academic progress policy for students receiving aid under federal, state, and institutional programs (which include academic and/or athletic aid) is applied consistently to all students.
Students eligible for the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant and/or HOPE Scholarship must remain enrolled and attending class on a full-time basis (12 or more hours) for two weeks after the last date to drop/add each semester in order to receive these funds. Students eligible for the HOPE Scholarship must remain enrolled and attending class on a half0time basis 96 or more hours) for two weeks after the last date to drop/add each semester in order to receive these funds. Sudents must complete the e-HOPE/e_TEG application https://www.gsfc.org/HOPE/Secure/ehope/index.cfm. Regarding effective dates, students should consult the policies on withdrawal from the college and dropping coursework. HOPE Scholarships cannot exceed direct cost of tuition less Federal Pell Grant, Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant, and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant. Institutional financial aid cannot cause total financial aid awarded to exceed cost of attendance.
