Truett-McConnell College Names New Men's Basketball Coach

Truett-McConnell College announces that Wade Mawdesley will be joining the college staff on May 11, 2009, as head coach of the men’s basketball program.

Mawdesley comes to TMC following two years as an assistant coach at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA.  During his tenure with the Emmanuel Lions, the program posted a 41-28 record, which included a school-first NAIA Division I National Tournament berth in 2008 and culminated in a 25-10 record and NCCAA Division I National Championship in 2009.

Prior to coaching at Emmanuel, Mawdesley served nine years as an assistant coach at NAIA Division II Warner University in Lake Wales, FL.  Seven of those years were as the head assistant and recruit coordinator.  During his tenure at Warner, the program achieved three National Tournament appearances, advancing to the “Sweet Sixteen” in 1998, to the “Elite Eight” in 2002 and to the “Final Four” in 2003.

During Mawdesley’s career, he has recruited/coached one National Player of the Year, one National Championship MVP, 11 All-Americans, 14 All-Conference nominees, two Conference Freshman of the Year players, two Newcomer of the Year players, and two Conference Players of the Year.  Mawdesley’s teams also achieved three conference championships, one conference tournament crown, and five post-season tournament berths, while earning two final top-5 and three overall top-10 national rankings.

Coach Mawdesley brings a passion for coaching that exceeds players’ performance on the court.  A committed Christian, Mawdesley and his family view coaching as their ministry to further the kingdom of Christ.  “As a coach I wield a powerful influence in the lives of the young men I work with on a daily basis,” said Mawdesley.  “It is my desire to be the type of Godly example and influence that leads these young men to a closer and more personal relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Mawdesley and his wife, Meka, have three children.
