Truett-McConnell College - a Georgia Baptist Christian College

Truett-McConnell College is a liberal arts, distinctively Christian institution that seeks to impact the next generation and, indeed, the world. Here, we are not simply a college; we are a family brought together by the grace of Christ.

On January 21, 1525, a small group of counter-cultural Radicals plodded through the snow and came together in a small home in Zurich, Switzerland. These young men and women came to a decision to reestablish the pattern of a New Testament church, a choice that would ultimately cost them their lives. Many were burned at the stake while others were drowned. They all suffered. However, even knowing the fate that awaited them, these Christians, after an intense time of prayer, boldly asked, as one account bore witness, to be baptized with “the true Christian baptism upon [their] faith and knowledge” (William R. Estep, The Anabaptist Story, 14).

Like incalculable believers before them, this group was tagged with the name “Anabaptist,” a term of derision mocking their decision to be baptized a second time. The world and even religious leaders misunderstood that their intent was not simply to reject infant baptism as unbiblical, but to establish a Believer’s church which was patterned after the Scripture. They were following God’s Word that one, in order to live a life of grace and victory, must first be saved and then baptized.

Yet, the world not only misunderstood their intent, they underestimated their legacy. This small band of ostracized Christians changed the world by trusting God’s Word and sharing Christ with a lost and dying humanity. They declared that salvation came only to those who professed their faith in Christ (John 3:1-17; Acts 4:12). Centuries ahead of their time, they defended the biblical principle of complete religious liberty (Matt. 13:24-30). In every aspect of their lives, they held to the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Now, nearly 500 years later, we are their debtors, and Truett-McConnell College will stand firmly on the shoulders of our forefathers, carrying forth the same vision.

These Anabaptists were preachers, educators, musicians, professionals, and the like. They all considered themselves missionaries. And like these men and women we too come from all walks of life and are called to follow various vocational paths. Yet, we define ourselves by Christ’s character, as Christians, and dedicate ourselves to His task, as missionaries.

At TMC, we are blessed with the highest caliber of faculty who also consider themselves missionaries. Our professors excel academically, having their doctoral degrees from respected secular universities including Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Texas, and Florida State, and private universities including Harvard, William and Mary, Regent, and numerous Southern Baptist seminaries. They are widely known and highly respected scholars, having published books that have sold hundreds of thousands of copies. But most importantly, they are devoted believers in Christ who have dedicated their lives helping students find the place to which God is calling them and to which He is equipping them.

Truett-McConnell College is a liberal arts, distinctively Christian institution that seeks to impact the next generation and, indeed, the world through missions. Here, we are not simply a college; we are family brought together by the grace of Christ. Welcome to Truett-McConnell College. Welcome home.
