Honoring our Heritage: Imagining the Impossible

University FAQs

1. What does it mean to “go to university status”?

In 1946 TMC was chartered as just that - a college - and for 70 years, it has enjoyed the stature of thousands of our alumni going across stage to get their Associate's degree or in more recent times, their Baccalaureate degree but now with our introduction of our Master’s of arts of theology and the advancement of other Master’s degrees as they are approved, we will move to university status. Not only because we are offering Master’s degrees, but we will have our first Master’s graduates that will be conferred to Master’s degree themselves.

2. If I started at TMC, but graduate at TMU, what will be on my diploma?

Starting next May, the students that will confer degrees, whether that be a Master's degree or a Baccalaureate degree, they'll see on their diploma The University of Truett-McConnell.

3. What will this change mean for my application?

Nothing but good things! We are still using the same criteria for accepting applicants. Now, instead of becoming a part of a prestigious college, you’ll simply become a part of a prestigious university!

4. What new academic opportunities will this level change facilitate for the student?

The student now could get a Baccalaureate degree in a myriad of areas whether its Business or our newest degrees of Criminal Justice or Exercise Science. But in our future as we expand our Master’s program, we are looking to do a Master’s degree in business and in counseling and teaching and other areas therefore the student can get their Baccalaureate degree and stay here for certifications and Master’s degree in an arena of areas.

4. How will this change affect the undergraduate and Master’s experience?

The change to university will mean growth for our undergraduate and Master’s program. This status will change the opportunities given to the students by expanding the opportunities for more degree programs and expanding the platform so that they can be Christ-centered but that they can also be globally minded.

5. Will we need more hours to complete our degree?

When going to the university status, hours for each degree program will not change. Check with your advisor if you have any questions about your specific degree checklist.

6. Will this affect the cost of campus tuition?

At TM, we are at the bottom third of private university education and we intend to remain that way. In fact, when a student graduates with a Baccalaureate degree, they will get the nice surprise that many of the Master’s degrees are less expensive than the undergrad. Not only because of the length of the program, but the cost per hour. As Truett becomes a university, it also becomes in many ways more affordable if the student continues as well as stays and earns a graduate degree.

7. Will this affect the ‘Biblically Centered’ promise that TMC has lived by?

The core of TM is that we are biblically centered from the very first verse to the very last tribe. Students on undergrad level recognize the great commission minor, as they take theology classes, mission classes, and Bible survey classes - or go on mission trips. This uniqueness will continue even on a University level status.

8. Will University status change the athletic program?

No, the university status will not change any part of the athletic program. We will continue to offer opportunities for students to participate in many different sports programs, continue to build team players on and off the field and win games!
